You can rent boards and take lessons right at the beach, just a ten-minute walk from the hotel’s front door. Equipment rentals and lessons are available at Surf Board Rentals Waikiki, Star BeachBoys, or at Hans Hedemann Surf School, to name a few.
If you prefer to wash your stress away in the salt water, Waikiki Beach offers some of the calmest, warmest waters and a unique Hawaii vibe, with terrific people watching, too.
Nearby Hanauma Bay boasts some of the best snorkeling on the island; the Hanauma Bay State Park is closed on Tuesdays, but opens every other days at 6 a.m., closing at 7 p.m. in the summer months, and 6 p.m. in the winter.
You can try your hand at Outrigger Canoe paddling. Unique to Hawaii, this sport combines wave riding with seated canoe paddling. If you prefer to stand and paddle, Stand Up Paddling is also very popular here. Standup Paddle Board rentals and outrigger canoe lessons can be had at Waikiki Beach Services or at Big Wave Dave Surf Company.
