Waikiki Beach
When
people think of Hawaii, they usually have a
vision of white sands and surf. Welcome to
Waikiki Beach. The beach at Waikiki is a two
mile stretch of coast line fronted by hotels
and plenty of shopping, and eateries.
Waikiki
Beach is always crowded, but it is also very
relaxing. If relaxing is not your thing, go
enjoy on one of the many beach activities,
that include surfing, canoeing, swimming, or
snorkeling. There are plenty of shops and
stores where beach equipment can be rented
or bought at a fair price.
Newcomers
should take special care when using personal
flotation devices (e.g., inflatable
mattresses, Styrofoam swim boards, etc.) -
there is no substitute for good swimming
abilities.
Be
conscience of runaway surfboards and boats
that enter and leave the area- they can be
dangerous. Ask the lifeguards where the best
places to swim are.
Waikiki Beach has the following in its
beach and park areas:
* LIFEGUARDS
* SAND AND REEF
* PICNIC AREAS
* PHONES
* SHOWERS
* RESTROOMS
HERE ARE
SOME BASIC OCEAN SAFETY TIPS:
1. Swim in Lifeguarded Areas
2. Never Swim Alone
3. Don't Dive Into Unknown Water or Into
Shallow Breaking Waves.
4. Ask a Lifeguard about Beach and Surf
Conditions before Swimming.
5. If You Are Unable to Swim Out of a Strong
Current, Signal for Help.
6. Rely on Your Swimming Ability Rather Than
a Flotation Device.
7. Look For, Read and Obey All Beach Safety
Signs and Symbols
8. If In Doubt, Just Stay Out!
The
Diamond Head side of Waikiki Beach is
covered in grassy picnic and recreational
areas, including those of Kapiolani Park,
where you can enjoy a game of tennis,
archery, or lying under the shade in the
thick well manicured grass.
